For three of my HDFS classes, the lab portion of the course was spending 3 hours a week in a classroom on campus. For my HDFS 3460 class, we chose a child to observe the course of the semester and wrote a portfolio on them, documenting their progress over the course of the semester. We interviewed their parents and got to know some context about the child, which helped us to create a developmental portfolio about the child. For my HDFS 3470 course, we created 6 activities, ranging from art, group time, snack, and outdoor play. We wrote lesson plans and worked alongside our lead teacher to create activities that would best support the development of the children in the classroom.
