The Treehouse

During the summer after my freshman year of college, I began working as an Assistant Teacher . I was in the 1-2-year-old room and along with a lead teacher, we supervised and took care of 6 children 5 days a week. We did activities such as gondola rides, water parks, and stroller rides. During the pandemic, we had to come up with fun activities that would protect our children, while also ensuring that they were never bored and always had something fun planned.

During my second summer there, I was in the three-year-old room. While this was a new change of pace from my old room, it was a challenge in many different ways. I had to constantly entertain the children and keep them busy while also ensuring their safety. With fewer COVID restrictions, we had the freedom to take the children on hikes and more places.

Finally, during the Summer of 2022, I was a co-lead teacher in the four-year-old room. I was able to take on a leadership role and even had my own room one day. Learning how to plan out a day and include activities that would best suit the development of the children was a daunting task, but with preparation, I was able to successfully run my own room.

Since then, I have become a lead teacher in the 1 and 2 year old room. Alongside two assistant teachers, I lead a room of 10-12 children.

This job has given me so many opportunities to expand my childcare skills and also learn from my lead teachers about how to effectively manage a classroom and lead a group of 15-20 children.
